Calling Samajwadi Party as insensitive towards the plight of farmers state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party said dilly-dally attitude of the Akhilesh Government in disbursing compensation has forced farmers to commit suicide. “This reflects the insensitivity of the state government that neither Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav nor any cabinet minister of the government had visited any village ravaged by the rains and hail storm in recent past. They are busy giving statements while farmers are facing the brunt,” BJP state unit president Dr laxmi Kany Bajpai told reporters here on Friday.
He said that the state government is making an excuse of lack of funds but the fact is it has Rs 675 crore in its emergency relief fund. The Union Agriculture Ministry has already written a letter to the state government to use that fund and the same will be refunded to the state government very soon, Bajpai said. The BJP leader said that state government claims that it has released over Rs 500 crore for the farmers but the fact is that till April 3 the state government had released only Rs 92 crore as compensation for the farmers who lost their crop. “District Magistrate and lekhpals are busy in minting money and passing it on to their political masters. The crop assessment work is going at a snail pace. The officers have not gone to the field. They are doing assessment loss sitting in their rooms,” he said. He alleged that the state government has failed on all the fronts therefore it is misleading people by announcing new schemes whereas old schemes are far from complition.
