Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a revamp of its organisational structure, with a focus on key states. In Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest number of Lok Sabha seats, the BJP has appointed Baijayant Panda as the in-charge, signaling a strategic move to strengthen its position in the crucial battleground.
Panda, a prominent figure within the BJP who hails from Orissa, serves as the national vice-president and spokesperson of the party. With his extensive experience in politics, including his tenure as a Lok Sabha member from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) before joining BJP in 2019, Panda brings valuable insights to his new role as the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP has expressed unwavering confidence in its prospects in Uttar Pradesh, affirming its intention to secure victory in all 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. This bold assertion underscores the party’s commitment to consolidating its stronghold in the region.
Panda’s appointment follows a strategic pattern observed in the organisational framework of the BJP. Dharmendra Pradhan, who hails from Orissa like Panda, was previously appointed as in-charge for UP assembly elections in 2022, highlighting the party’s reliance on leaders with regional roots to spearhead the crucial campaigns.
In addition to Panda’s appointment, the BJP has strategically assigned key roles to five leaders from Uttar Pradesh across various states. Former UP minister Shrikant Sharma has been appointed as the election in-charge for Himachal Pradesh, while national vice-president Laxmikant Bajpai will oversee Jharkhand. Rajya Sabha MP Dr Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal has been entrusted with the responsibility of Karnataka, former minister Mahendra Singh of Madhya Pradesh, and MP Vijaypal Singh Tomar of Odisha.
