After making verbal attack on the Congress leaders for their non-performance, union minister for Steel Beni Prasad Verma finally came in field by holding a first meet in the State capital in the name of further upliftment of dalits, minorities, and other backward classes on coming Saturday. The programme though organised under the banner of Dalit, OBC, and Minorities Morcha and Beni, who was chief guest, even claimed the said Morcha is a part of
Congress but the manner in which hoardings were put outside Congress state head quarter and no role of State president Nirmal Khatri and his team in the programme, it clearly pointed that Beni has now decided to come to field to show his strength in the Congress particularly to Rahul Gandhi.
Sources said that Beni Prasad Verma, who first held the Congress leaders responsible for debacle in the last Assembly elections claiming that some of them were agents of Samajwadi Party, further targeted the leadership when he said to have went on record to say that there is a change in UPCC very soon. Besides Beni also chose to attack local leaders in his press conference from time to time. However, announcement by him on Thursdayafternoon, that he will be lead the first conference of Dalit, OBC, and Minorities Morcha, and soon it will be also held at city and district level after spreading the Morcha sent alarm bell ringing amongst the Party organization particularly in UPCC.
To avert any direct confrontation, Beni claimed that the said Morcha is a part of Congress and even the conference is organised within the Party. However, his remarks that when Bharatiya Janta Party or Samajwadi Party were already active in wake of elections that that Congress is holding no programme in the State and almost lyingdefunct, he decided to gear-up the Cadre through the above Morcha, which is meant for further upliftment of dalits,
OBCs and minorities. Beni even said that he had invited Rahul Gandhi to attend a massive rally orgnised by his at Ramabai Sthal but since `Yuvraj’ had yet not decided on it so he would now organised programme of above Morcha at district and city level to gear up and hold a historic rally attended by Rahul Gandhi.
Interestingly, the move of Beni would create further trouble for Nirmal Khatri who had so far failed to announce names of his officer bearers. What is more serious is that Khatri had abolished the State Backward Cell, Minorities and even OBC cell in the beginning of July last year and showed no concern to form it till now even when the members of the above segment plays a major role in all kind of political activities including elections. Benigrabbed the opportunity to bringing them at one platform, the Party high-command might took cognizance especially against Khatri, who is presently running the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee with some temporary hands and had no permanent functional team.
