Senior Congress leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, Beni Prasad Verma, termed that meeting of the ‘convicts and leaders under CBI scanner’ to fight against BJP is a total failure.
‘’Without Congress no other political party can fight against BJP and these leaders, who are convicted by the court and some are under CBI scanner has no moral right to form a parallel political platform in the country,’’he said. Talking to reporters here at his residence on Thursday afternoon, Verma, a former union minister, said that no other alternative without the support of Congress is viable in the country in the present scenario. ‘’ The ideology of the Congress could only fight the communal BJP while the others are themselves involved in corruption and other charges ,’’ he stated.
Verma alleged that these so called secular leaders are just holding these meetings for the vested interest rather than thinking of the country. The Congress leader was commenting on the meeting held at New Delhi under the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav for setting up an alternative political platform which would be anti-BJP and anti-Congress in the country. The meeting was attended by former Prime Minister, H D Deve Gowda, former Bihar Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar and laloo Prasad Yadav and Janata Dal(united) supremo Sharad Yadav along with Kamal Moraraka of the SJP and Dushyant Chautala of the INlD.  JD(U) leader and former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar later briefing media also indicated that a merger among the parties in future could not be ruled out.
