Former Union Minister and Congress Working Committee(CWC)member, Beni Prasad Verma demanded stern action against those senior leaders who had launched an attack on Gandhi family particularly on Rahul Gandhi.
``These leaders who are now trying to blame Rahul or Sonia Gandhi for the poor performance of Congress in the recent elections, had already done much damaged to the Organisation in the Past. They must be sidelined and if they continued with their sinister plan to defame the Party leadership through media than they should be removed from the Party on disciplinary ground”, asserted Beni Prasad Verma while showing his full faith on Congress high-command and that only they would lead the Party back to power.
Former union minister also supported Rahul’s stand on not joining United Progressive Alliance Government.``The leaders who were now claiming that the Party was defeated as Rahul not joined UPA government were themselves to be blamed for making controversial statement which lead to Party’s poor performance”, alleged Beni. ``Both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and even this family had history of sacrifices as once Sonia left PM’s chair for Manmohan and later Rahul also, kept the same tradition and not came in way of Manmohan when he again took charge as head of UPA-II government”, cited Beni saying that if Rahul wanted than he could easily get the PM’s chair. On the other allegations of some Congress leader that Rahul’s silence led to debacle of the Party, Beni said that the same Rahul traveled through out the country in 2009 and get more seats than what they get in 2004, at that time no now raised such questions. ``Wins and defeats are part of every political organisation so it is better to look for the reasons than blaming on each other”, Beni asserted while flaying the senior leaders of the Congress who were raising controversy by making attack on Rahul.
Meanwhile, Beni also claimed that several leaders from the Samajwadi Party have contacted him to rejoin the party, but he has rejected all the proposals.’At least a dozen SP leaders have contacted me to consider rejoining the SP after the lok Sabha elections. The latest one was just a week ago,’ he said adding that the leaders said SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was ready to give him a Rajya Sabha ticket, if he joined the SP. ‘There is no question of rejoining the SP when Congress leadership has given me such respect and honour. I have not forgotten the insult meted out in the SP which forced me to leave the party first and then join the Congress before 2009 lok Sabha elections,’ he confided. The former minister made it clear that he has rejected all the proposals from the Samajwadi Party. It was reported that SP tried to lure Verma along with Amar Singh and some other Congress leaders like Raj Babbar to rejoin the party after the lok Sabha debacle. Except for Amar Singh, no other leaders have shown their interest to rejoin the party.
