Bahraich district was rocked by mysterious killings after four bodies, including those of three children and a woman with their throats slit were recovered in the last two days, according to reports.
The bodies found within a 9-km radius of Fakharpur area along the Lucknow-Bahraich highway are yet to be identified, local police said on Monday.
On Sunday evening, the bodies of a six-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman were found in a farmer's field of paddy, about 100 metre away from the highway on the border of Malukpur and Madhaupur villages under the Fakharpur police station. Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh inspected Malukpur and Madhopur villages on Sunday. The woman was beheaded and her head was found lying in the nearby fields.
Singh said they sent both the bodies for post-mortem examination and could comment only after getting the report. He said that they flashed the message in the neighboring districts to ascertain identities of the victims on the basis of missing or any other report lodged with the police regarding the above victims.
Earlier on Saturday also, the bodies of a 10-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy with injury marks on their necks were found. "Bodies of the two children were found in a sugarcane field on Saturday morning in Basantapur village under Fakharpur police station. One child is a boy, while the other is a girl. Both were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and circumstantial evidence pointed that they were killed somewhere else and later their bodies have been dumped at the above spot. The age of the deceased girl is around 10 years, while that of the boy is eight, Additional Superintendent of Police Kunwar Gyanjay Singh said.
The killings and modus operandi look almost similar and the local police also suspect all the four bodies might be belonging to the same family. Local police registered cases against unknown persons and were making all efforts to maintain identity and lay a trap on the killers.
