The lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday fixed June 11 as the next date of hearing of a PIl seeking direction for a CBI probe into the gangrape and murder of two sisters in Badaun.

Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal, informing the court about the state Government’s stand on the issue, stated that a CBI inquiry into the case had already been recommended. Godiyal also submitted a notification issued by the state Government regarding the recommendation.

The court’s vacation bench, comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Rajan Roy, fixed the date for the  hearing on the PIl filed by NGO ‘We the People’ through its general secretary Prince lenin.

In its petition, the NGO submitted the copies of the FIR and post-mortem reports and sought direction for a CBI probe into the incident as well as action against the accused police officers, besides providing adequate security to the family members of the victims.

The bodies of the two minor cousins were found strung from a tree in Katra Sadatganj village last month, triggering a nationwide outrage. A case was lodged against seven persons, including  two policemen, in this regard of which five had been arrested.
