Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan have again acquired agricultural land in Uttar Pradesh. This time the Bachchans purchased approximately 1.4 hectare (3.2 acres) in Muzaffarnagar village at Kakori—23 km from the state capital.

The registry formalities of the newly acquired  land were completed at the office of Sub-Registrar-4 in the state capital on Tuesday, government spokesman said. Mumbai resident attorney holder Rajesh Yadav was present on behalf of the Bachchans along with lawyer Vishal Mehrotra. Officials said that the Bachchans have paid a  total of Rs 6 crore for the agricultural land at Rs 67 lakh per bigha apart from a stamp duty of Rs 29.85 lakh.

“Of this two bighas, three biswa land has been registered in Amitabh’s name and six bighaa ten biswa in Abhishek’s name,” the lawyer said.  In 2010 Mr Amitabh and his wife Jaya Bachchan had acquired nearly four hectares (10 acres) of land in the same village in Kakori.  Sources said purchase of this farm land will make Bachchans eligible to purchase agricultural land in Maharshtra as the rule in that state is very clear that only farmer can purchase agricultural land. With purchase of land in UP Bachchans will get a farmer status, he said.

Before this the superstar found himself in a controversy after purchasing 16 bighas of land in Daulatpur village of neighboring Barabanki district in 2006 and 2007 during Mulayam Singh Yadav’s tenure. later, the village head Raj Kumari, her son Avnindra Singh had moved the court for filing a case against Bachchan and five others, alleging that the actor had ‘cheated’ people by announcing setting up of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Mahavidyala Degree College in the village, whereas no work has started even after the announcement made two years back.
