Babbar questions double standards of BJP, RSS

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar questioned Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for adopting double standards on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations and alleged that the RSS headquarters had been shifted to South Block in New Delhi from Nagpur.

“On one hand, the BJP honoured Nathu Ram Godse and, on the other, they are celebrating Bapu’s 150th birth anniversary. Both cannot go side by side. It actually questions their real motive. The saffron brigade earlier did everything to resent the Mahatma’s teachings,” he said

Addressing media persons in Lucknow on Wednesday, Babbar alleged that now the RSS headquarters had been shifted to South Block from Nagpur and it was misusing the official machinery to propagate the government’s achievement and other controversial issues for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

“The statement of RSS chief on Ram temple is an effort to confuse the majority voters as the BJP has only ditched them over the years. Congress or any other party has no objection on Ram temple at Ayodhya. But the BJP is trying to rake up the issue to polarise the voters ahead of the Lok Sabha poll,” he said.

The UP Congress president also criticised RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his statement that the book ‘Bunch of Thought’ written by ideologue Golvarkar was an old thought of the RSS.

“By saying this, Bhagwat has insulted his guru, which is common practice in the BJP and RSS,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the UP Congress received a shot in the arm when All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Tauqid Siddiqui and Najib Ansari joined the party along with their supporters in the presence of Babbar.

On Wednesday, Congress leader Talat Aziz perceived threat to her and her family members from the BJP government after a court issued summons to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in connection with the murder of head constable Satya Prakash in Maharajganj on February 10, 1999.

Aziz, a senior Congress leader, alleged that the court ordered reopening of the case after a closure report was submitted by the CB-CID. Two summons were issued to the Chief Minister and a Maharajganj court has fixed the next date of hearing on October 27.

“I am receiving threat from different quarters while my family members are also being threatened,” she told media persons in Lucknow in the presence of UP Congress president Raj Babbar.

On the direction of the Allahabad High Court, the Maharajganj court recently ordered the reopening of the murder case on the petition of Talat Aziz.

Babbar attacked the Chief Minister saying that pressure was being put on the Congress leader to withdraw the case.

“What is more, to harass the family, the police in nexus with some politicians, have lodged an FIR against Talat Aziz’ husband,” Babbar said.
