B S P as the only saviour of Brahmins, former Chief Minister Mayawati

Calling Bahujan Samaj Party as the only saviour of Brahmins, former Chief Minister Mayawati said that her government had taken care of `sarv samaj’ including people from the upper caste.

"The Brahmins have suffered the most during the present political dispensation. They are being mal-treated and denied position in government and political organizations.

Whereas during BSP regime the party and the government had taken care of Brahmins and had given them the honour which they deserve," Mayawati said while addressing a Brahmin sammelan held here on Thursday.

She said it was her government that advocated reservation among the poor in upper caste. "Our government had plans to implement more pro-Brahmin schemes but we failed to do so because of paucity of funds. We asked for Rs 80,000 package from the centre but the same was denied," Mayawati said.

"A canard was spread that the BSP Government did not do anything for Brahmins and some fell prey to this gossip and did not vote for BSP in assembly election," she said.

"But performance of this government has made Brahmins believe that only BSP can give them (Brahmins) honour and respect which they deserve," she said.

When Mayawati came to address the function workers raised slogans comparing Mayawati with Durga, laxmi and Sarawswti. Some called her Nyay ki devi. Slogans like "Brahmin shankh bajayge, haathi dilli jaayega’ and Haathi nahi Ganesh hai, Brahma Vishnu Mahesh hai’ rent the air.

Mayawati also authorized party’s national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra to organize Brahmin sammelans across the state.
