Azam wants Cong to seek apology from US

After his return from the controversial US tour, Urban Development Minister Azam Khan said that the Congress led-UPA government should seek an apology from the US over his detention and humiliation at the Boston airport by the authorities there.

''It is the responsibility of the Union government to ensure that people of all castes and creed get due honour during their foreign visits,'' Khan said at Rampur where he headed after landing in India on Monday morning.

"The government should make sure that the US tenders an apology over its abrasive treatment to its guest. It is not the first time when a VIP or common Muslim has been harassed in the name of security. But I do not want to make it a one off incident and raise it on behalf of every Indian in general and Muslims in particular," Khan said.

He said that intellectuals working in the US and being subjected to misbehaviour must return to India and contribute to the progress of their own country.

lambasting External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for his 'sick' thinking, Khan said: ''I would not be surprised, if I get to know that the Centre is behind the wholecontroversy.''

''What would I have done, had somebody put a sketch of White House in my pocket and asked me to go through security check,'' he queried.
