Defending the police action against the boy who was booked for posting objectionable post against him in facebook Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said that strict action against the boy has resulted in a drastic drop in abusive comments on the social network sites.

“It is true that people have stopped posting abusive comments in social networking sites after UP police took action against the guilty. Freedom of speech does not mean one gets freedom to abuse anyone. And a guilty should be brought to book,” he said.

The class 11th student from Bareilly was arrested on March 16 and later released on bail for allegedly uploading a Facebook post attributed to Samajwadi Party strongman Azam  Khan. “It was wrong on the part of media to attribute the Supreme Court’s rule on Section 66(A) of the IT Act on my case when it was actually in the case of objectionable post on Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said in Vidhan Sabha here on Thursday.

The Minister criticized the opposition for its role in the matter said that freedom of expression doesnot mean that anyone can insult any prominent person or create communal disturbances. “Fortunately UP Police’s strict action has forced these types of offenders to restrict their posts now,” he said.

He also claimed that Muzaffarnagar riots were triggered only due to the write ups in the social media. He said people are arguing that the boy should be let off for the mistake because he is a minor. But we should remember that in Delhi rape case too one of the rapist was minor. Has anyone ever said that that minor boy should also be allowed to go scot free,” he said.
