Samajwadi Party general secretary and senior Cabinet minister Mohammad Azam Khan continued his diatribe against Governor Ram Naik. On Saturday, he termed Naik as a ‘BJP cadre’ and announced to approach President Pranab Mukherjee to apprise him of the “unconstitutional” activities of the Governor.
“The Governor was insulting the Muslims of Uttar Pradesh and violating constitutional norms by maintaining himself to be a BJP worker,” Khan said while addressing a function in Rampur on Saturday. While targeting the Governor, Khan apprehended threat to his life and claimed that the statements of Naik had created fear among Muslims.
“I would be meeting the President very soon to apprise him of the conspiracy of the Governor and will provide all the evidences to the Rashtrapati Bhawan,” he said. On Friday, Naik had said that the issue raised by the minister was unjustified after Khan wrote a four-page letter to him on Thursday. The Governor refused to comment on the letter though he admitted receiving it.
Khan had written a letter to Governor Naik alleging that his “continued negative” approach towards him had created fear among Muslims in the state. What has irked Khan is that the Governor has objected to running a private school on a government property in Rampur that was recently transferred on lease to a trust run by him (Khan) for just Rs 100. After TV Rajeshwar and Bl Joshi, Naik is the third Governor of UP who is under the firing line of Khan.
