Aware of its impending defeat, SP making unrealistic promises: Yogi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that the Samajwadi Party leadership was aware of its impending defeat in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state and, therefore, it was making big and unrealistic promises to the people.

Yogi Adityanath took part in a door-to-door campaign in Mohan Nagar area of Ghaziabad and addressed intellectuals in Sahibabad to seek people’s support in the forthcoming elections. General (Retired) VK Singh and some other leaders accompanied him during the campaign.

Taking a dig at Akhilesh Yadav while addressing intellectuals at an event at Sahibabad, Yogi Adityanath said: “Those who failed to provide electricity to the people when they were in power are promising 300 units for free because they know well that they are not coming back and need not bother to keep their promises to the people. Actually, they are used to living in darkness because thieves do not like a moonlit night.”

Yogi Adityanath said that all the opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress, had disappeared from the scene during the COVID-19 pandemic and were busy misguiding people on the two vaccines developed in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“India has set an example for the developed world in Covid management under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. It is because of effective management (of Covid) that despite having a population four times more than that of the US, the deaths due to the pandemic in India have been half the deaths in the US,” he remarked.

Urging intellectuals to visit door-to-door along with General (Retired) VK Singh to seek votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates, Yogi Adityanath said that people must recognise the fact that those who did not stand by them during the pandemic and who do not have development on their agenda were their real enemies and they must not support them.

He said that the current UP government had been providing free tests, free vaccines and free treatment for the COVID-19 patients as well as giving a double dose of ration to 15 crore people while the previous government only protected mafias and gangsters who captured properties of traders, doctors and poor people.

“They have given tickets to history-sheeters and dreaded gangsters. They have given a ticket to a man who was responsible for the mass exodus of Hindus from Kairana. They have given tickets to criminals and rioters in Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Loni, Amroha and various other places”, Yogi said.

Speaking on the issue of pensioners, Chief Minister Yogi said that the state government had deposited Rs 10,000 crore to the accounts of government employees since 2017 under the new pension scheme which the previous government had denied to them since 2004.

He said, “It was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government that had stopped pension to government employees. The previous government did not even open their bank accounts.”

Yogi said that the UP government had ensured that no one’s salary was cut during COVID-10 pandemic as many other states did, and it protected the lives and livelihood of people throughout the pandemic.

In a scathing attack on the previous government, he said, “When we took over in 2017, the first three things we did were to shut down illegal slaughterhouses, form Anti Romeo Squad to protect girls and waive loans worth Rs 36,000 crore of 86 lakh farmers. And when the previous government took over, the first thing it did was to withdraw cases against terrorists. They need power to exploit, whereas we need power to serve every individual of the state.”

He added, “UP needs the BJP government again to ensure safety of women, poor and common people. The BJP government is needed so that bulldozers continue to run over illegal properties of mafias and gangsters; corruption is kept in check and expressways give momentum to the lives of people.”

Yogi also said that Gautam Buddha Nagar would have a world-class film city while the international airport at Jewar would be the biggest in Asia. He also promised to resolve the drinking water problem at Mohan Nagar and Koda localities, pointing out that the state government had provided tap water to seven districts of the water scarce region of Bundelkhand.
