Avnish Yadav, the terminated police constable who was arrested from Bareilly station in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl inside a police station campus in Badaun, was remanded to 14-days judicial custody by the magistrate on Tuesday. Interestingly, he pleaded his innocence in the case and also demanded that only a probe by the sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would reveal the truth behind the baseless allegation made on him. Talking to media persons in front of the district jail at Badaun on Tuesday afternoon, the accused police constable alleged that he is fully innocent and he has been framed in the case.

‘’ My children have become orphan and it is a conspiracy hatched against me,’’ he stated. He said that a CBI probe could find the truth in the incident. Earlier Avnish was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court in Badaun.  Police produced Avnish Yadav before the POSCO court after medical examination where the judge sent him to judicial custody.  Another policeman accused in the rape, Veerpal Singh Yadav is still at large and sleuths of the STF are burning mid-night oil to trace out his whereabouts.

Both the policemen have been sacked by the state government on the rape that occurred inside the Musahaj police station on New Year eve. It may be mentioned that Additional Director General of Police(Crime) H C Awasthi, who rushed from lucknow, was leading the investigation and STF along with five other police teams were engaged to trace out the two absconding constables. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has give Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victim. Police station in-charge of Musaghaj,  Ram lakhan Singh along with seven other policemen of the police station have been also suspended for the incident.
