After a two-day delay, don-turned-politico from Prayagraj, Atiq Ahmad, was transferred to Ahmedabad on Monday.
Atiq Ahmad’ has been shifted to Ahmedabad on the direction of the Supreme Court on April 23 this year.
Atiq Ahmad, who was doing time at Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj, was taken to Varanasi under heavy security cover and later to Ahmedabad by a regular flight.
Police sources said on Monday said that the don would be taken from Ahmedabad to Sabarmati Jail.
Despite clear orders from Supreme Court, the shifting of Atiq Ahmad from UP to Gujarat took a long time as first the Gujarat government was not keen to accept a don in its jail.
Recently, while being lodged at Deoria district jail, Atiq Ahmad got a businessman kidnapped from Lucknow, brought to him at Deoria jail and thrashed there. After the incident, Atiq was shifted to Bareilly jail and later to Naini jail before the Lok Sabha polls.
A former Member of Parliament, Atiq Ahmad, filed his nominations from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi but withdrew as he was not sanctioned bail for campaigning.
