The Republican Party of India led by Union minister Ramdas Athawale has announced not to contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls and to support the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"Our party has been in alliance with BJP since 2014 and we have decided to support BJP in UP elections," Athawale told media persons here on Saturday.
Talking about UP polls he said: “Our party has written a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda that RPI will not contest a single seat in UP. We will support BJP in all seats."
“Though the RPI was ready to fight on 50 seats ,but now we have given full support to Yogi Adityanath,” Athawale said.
He claimed the RPI workers would get respect if the BJP government was formed in UP.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi respected Baba Saheb's Constitution and he was engaged in strengthening the Constitution of India.
He alleged that some forces in Mumbai were trying to drive away the North Indians. “We are trying to wake up North Indians," the RPI leader said.
