Former IPS officer and Commissioner of Police of Kanpur, Asim Arun, who took voluntary retirement last week, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party here on Sunday in presence of Union Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and UP BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh.

Welcoming the former cop into the party fold, Anurag Singh Thakur said it was a big thing that such a talented officer had sacrificed his promising career and jumped into politics to serve the people.

“Asim Arun’s vast experience will help the state in controlling law and order and other administrative issues," he said.

Swatantra Dev Singh said that Asim Arun was an honest officer and his contribution in the party would certainly strengthen the BJP.

Asim Arun in his address said, “I am happy to join the largest party of the world and will work with leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. "

“I left the IPS and took VRs in order to serve the people and the nation. I promise to give my 100 per cent in politics," he added.

Talking about the law and order situation in the state, the former cop said, "Never in the past, has there been such a conducive atmosphere, for controlling crime and criminals the police were given a free hand. Rule of law prevails in the Yogi Adityanath regime leading to development in all the sectors."

On the occasion he also remembered Dr BR Ambedkar, claiming that due to his efforts the Dalits and Backwards were getting their rights.

Asim Arun, a 1994 batch IPS officer of ADG rank, had sought VRS on January 8, the day election dates were announced and its approval came within a week. Asim Arun is a native of Kannauj and as per the information, he can be fielded by the BJP from Kannauj Sadar assembly constituency.
