Six persons were arrested from Bahujan Samaj Party leader Ruchi Veera’s farmhouse at Begwal area of Bijnor on charges of slaughtering animals on Friday night.

Superintendent of Police of Bijnor, Laxmi Niwas Mishra, said the police raided the BSP leader’s farmhouse at Begwal after being tipped off about animal slaughter. He said six persons were arrested and the police recovered two quintals of animal flesh from the spot.

A case has been registered against 13 persons and those arrested have been sent to jail.

Though no case has been registered against Veera as yet, the district police chief said that investigations were underway.

Ruchi Veera had parted ways with the Samajwadi Party to join the BSP ahead of the last Lok Sabha polls and had contested the election.

Ruchi’s husband Udayan Veera said that though the farmhouse was owned by them, they had no connection with the illegal slaughter of animals. He said that the watchman of the farmhouse should be held responsible for it.
