In an attempt to give a boost to real estate in Allahabad a new zero-pollution green city is coming up in Naini, on the outskirts of Sangam city, where the state university has also been proposed to be set up.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is expected to lay the foundation of the new state university in the new city in October. The Samajwadi Party (SP) government has already sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the university which is to be set up in 50 acres of land. The new ultra-modern city, first time in the state on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, in a area of around 1471 acres adjoining the ITI and on the National highway-76, is being set up due to the efforts of Allahabad lok Sabha member and deputy leader of the SP in the lok Sabha Reoti Raman Singh.

The new city is just 2 km away from Sangam, the confluence of holy river Ganga,Yamuna and mythical Saraswati, and it would be the first city in the state to have roof top solar panel for residential lightning and zero discharge, as all the waste water will be treated and reused for irrigation purposes. The city will be set up at Mahauriya village under Chaka block of the district and it would initially require Rs 500 crore for basic infrastructure.

Singh said that the plan for the new city has already been submitted to the government and approval was expected very soon. The land is already acquired by the industry department way back in 1967 for heavy industries and it will be handed over to the urban development department for the city. The SP MP said: " The new city would have all basic amenities including hospitals, schools, parks, two industrial belt along with five-star hotels and luxury flats. A high-rise building of 57 floors is also planned in the city."

According to the officials, the city would have three entry points with a ring road covering the entire area. "There would be several residential complexes which will face Ganga. Several renowned schools and colleges like Amity and others have already started approaching the officials to book their land in the new city," the official said. To make it a zero pollution city, a cycle track has been planned and there would be battery operated transport system in the city.

The master plan of the new city claims that 16 per cent of the total area would be kept reserve for green belt while the maximum 32 per cent would be for the industrial belt. While institutions including schools, hospitals, and others will get nine per cent share of around 100 acres, the residential complexes would be made in 24 per cent of the city. The plan has kept 3 per cent of the area for public utility including parks, petrol pumps, public toilets and other amenties.
