Veteran Congress leader Ammar Rizvi, who quit all party posts two days back, extended his support to Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Lucknow, Rajnath Singh.
Rizvi invited Singh at his residence on Friday afternoon and assured him of all help in the district to facilitate his victory.
Reacting to Rizvi’s move to support the BJP candidate in Lucknow, a senior Congress leader claimed that they were aware of it several months back.
He said that Rizvi had proximity with the ruling party as he wanted to get university status for his private college in Sitapur.
The Congress leader claimed that it was good that Rizvi’s real face was exposed and it would be better if he quit the Congress before he was expelled for his anti-party activities.
Rizvi could not be contacted for knowing why he preferred to support a BJP candidate while still being in Congress.
When contacted about any disciplinary action being initiated against Rizvi, UPCC leader Virendra Madan said that an official report in this regard was being awaited and stern action would follow if Rizvi was found to be indulging in anti-party activity.
