Amit Shah as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party was greeted with joy

The appointment of Amit Shah as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party was greeted with joy by party workers who danced and distributed sweets among people saying the party would touch a new height under his leadership.

"Shah has proved his leadership and capability by making BJP the number one party in Uttar Pradesh. The combination of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister and Shah as BJP president will make the country gallop on the path of progress," party's state president laxmikant Bajpai said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

He said the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP would sweep the Assembly polls in 2017 under the leadership of Modi and Shah.BJP state spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said Shah's elevation as party president had proved that the way to Delhi goes from Uttar Pradesh."Prime Minister Narendra Modi conquered Delhi via Varanasi and now Shah, who was party general secretary and in-charge of UP, has become the party president as a reward for his success in the lok Sabha polls in UP," he said.

Pathak made it clear that the BJP's success in UP in the lok Sabha polls was only due to the leadership of Rajnath Singh and able management of Shah.Party's state secretary Virendra Tiwari said that Shah's rise from a corporator to the post of party president showed that the BJP was a party which respected the had work of ground level workers.Meanwhile, party leaders distributed sweets and fired crackers to celebrate the occasion.
