Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Textiles Smriti Irani said that Amethi, which was lagging behind in development indicators, was now ahead in all sectors of development.
“Amethi is cruising ahead and the Yogi Adityanath government in UP too is supporting us in all the projects, which ultimately will help people,” she said.
Addressing a function in Amethi after speaking at Nand Ghar at Darpipur in Gauriganj and inaugurating a computer lab for children, Irani said the people of Amethi had rejected the rule of one family and chosen her as their representative.
“This region has suffered a lot because the family which ruled Amethi treated the people as their subject. Now, they have elected their ‘behen’ (sister) who will ensure that the fruits of government schemes reach the beneficiaries,” she said.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was also present with Irani, hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the earlier MP used to talk about poor but the new MP was working for the welfare of the poor.
The BJP leaders launched seven projects worth over Rs 92 crore in the area.
Earlier, while inaugurating the 1000th Nand Ghar, an ultra modern Anganwadi centre, Irani said that it was a great honour to be a part of this initiative and see the community and industry leaders come together for a noble cause that focuses on the overall well-being of children and women.
Nand Ghar is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme of mining to metals conglomerate Vedanta Ltd, which has been spearheading this programme in association with the Ministry for Women and Child Development to build and refurbish Anganwadis in various states across the country.
The Nand Ghars are equipped with televisions for e-learning, solar panels for reliable power, safe drinking water, clean toilets and have emerged as an ideal model for replication in other parts of the country.
In Amethi, Vedanta Ltd will construct 50 such Nand Ghars in two phases.
