The Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘102’ and ‘108’ emergency ambulance services which have been serving as ‘frontline warriors’ to ensure 24x7 smooth and timely admission of patients across the state have geared up to protect children against a probable third wave of COVID-19 outbreak.

“The state must be equipped to serve all its citizens. Improve the response time and bring down the number of cancelled calls due to non-availability of ambulances for various reasons,” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials.

To facilitate easy availability of proper medical care and Covid-related medicines to all, particularly children who are at a higher risk as predicted by experts, the Uttar Pradesh government has intensified preparations and roped in innovative measures to foil the third wave.

Meanwhile, the Sugarcane Development and Excise department continued to work on a war footing to ensure availability of oxygen in the hospitals across the state.

Giving detailed information, Additional Chief Secretary (Excise and Sugarcane Development) Sanjay R Bhoosreddy said that after purchasing oxygen generator plants from 80 manufacturers using CSR funds by industrial units of both departments, they were now being installed on a war footing.

“With the joint effort of the Excise and Sugarcane Development department, one community health centre or district hospital has been selected through 33 units of the Excise department and 47 sugar mills across the state. Oxygen is being supplied by the state government through these oxygen generators. Around 15 per cent oxygen of the state is being provided through oxygen plants set up by the Excise and Sugarcane department,” Bhoosreddy said.

“The installation of oxygen generators to supply oxygen to COVID-19 patients has been decided by the district magistrates of respective districts in the state in consultation with the chief medical officer, with the joint effort of the sugar industry and Sugarcane Development and Excise department,” the senior official said.
