A sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Sunil Kumar, posted in Bhiti tehsil in Ambedkarnagar, was arrested by Chandauli police late on Monday night.

The high court is said to have issued an order to arrest the SDM after which the police swung into action. According to information, Sunil Kumar was found guilty of not conducting proper investigation into the Kanshiram Awas Yojana case in 2013.

Reports said that while hearing the Kanshiram housing case, the court had issued an order for the arrest of Sunil Kumar. In compliance with the order, the Chandauli police reached Ambedkar Nagar late on Monday evening and then headed to the official residence of the SDM in Bhiti.

The police produced the arrest warrant before the SDM and took him into custody. The cops later moved to Chandauli along with Kumar.

Meanwhile, a court in Ballia has issued non-bailable warrants against four accused, including former state minister and BJP leader Anand Swaroop Shukla, after they failed to appear before it in connection with a nine-year-old case related to a murder attempt on a student leader.

Student leader Sudhir Ojha’s counsel Dinesh Tiwari said the four accused, including Shukla, did not appear in the local MP/MLA court of Special Justice Hussain Ahmed Ansari. Shukla’s advocate Rajendra Tripathi told the court that the accused would be produced before the court and time should be given. The court said no report has been received from the police station on NBWs against the accused, and that it was objectionable.
