In an attempt to arrest the menace of flood for once and all Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan has asked officials to prepare a plan to prevent re-occurrence of flood and that should be sent to the Centre for approval.
Ranjan carried out an aerial survey of the flood affected regions on Tuesday. He held discussions with officials and villagers to get the first hand information about the distribution of relief material in Gonda, Balrampur and Bahraich.
“Prepare a holistic report to control flood for once and all. The said report should also be sent to the central government for its clearance,” Ranjan said.
He asked the officials to carry out a survey of damaged houses and crops by August 30 so that adequate compensation could be given to the aggrieved people. The family members of those who lost their lives in floods would get a compensation of Rs 5 lakh.
“The receding flood water could create health hazard. The Chief Medical officers in each flood affected district should ensure availability of medicines in the affected region. Health facilities should be made available in each relief camp. The para-medics and doctors should be deployed in these camps,” Chief Secretary said.
He gave directions about availability of drinking water in the villages. “The basic facilities should be made available in those villages where water has receded. The BSA should ensure that schools should start operation,” he said.
The officials of Agriculture department were also asked to evaluate loss of paddy and cane crop and suggest alternate crops to the farmers so that they do not suffer much loses. Relief Commissioner K.S. Atoria also accompanied the Chief Secretary in this visit.
