Almost a year back Yogi Adityanath was made Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh eye brows were raised. Is a man, clad in saffron and who is a Mahant of a temple is fit enough to be Chief Minister of this politically sensitive stateIJ In a democracy electing Chief Minister depends on the legislature party and when BJP legislature Party elected Yogi Adityanath as its leader no question was raised. But questions continued to haunt the intelligentsia whether a man who does not have administrative experience is fit to be Chief Minister.
One year down the line he proved everyone wrong. Not only he streamlined the working but also made bureaucrats to slog. Meetings after meeting s were held to remove cobweb of indecision so that the benefits of the government schemes could reach the masses. All the sectors moved ahead in unison. Be it crime control, education, health, agriculture et al projects were made and budget was sanctioned for speedy implementation.
“I want implementation of projects of the Central as well as the state governments. Effective implementation of scheme will ensure that benefits would reach the identified people effectively and transparent manner,” Yogi said during one of his meetings with the bureaucrats.
The feather in the crown was the way Government organized Investors’ Meet in February where the captains of the industry promised to invest in Uttar Pradesh because they too believed it is a changed state now. The industrialists talked about improvement in law and order and infrastructure. The Government realized what entrepreneurs need so it started spreading network of quality roads across UP and repairing the old ones. Electricity supply was improved and now quality electricity is available all across the state.
The high point of Yogi’s regime was the way he fulfilled the promised BJP had made during election campaign. Be it the loan waiver scheme where crop loan worth Rs 36,000 crore was waived off in a transparent manner or the promise of curbing illegal mining the Yogi government has lived up to the expectations of the masses.
Not only this Chief Minister purchased 40 lakh tons of wheat and declared a MSP of potato which was unheard in the history of Uttar Pradesh. CM also announced purchase of 2 lakh tones of potato from the farmers to ensure that potato growers get remunerative price of their produce.
The Yogi government came to power with a resolve to control crime. Police carried out over 1350 encounters in which 44 criminals have been killed. The action has sent a fear among the criminals as there are reports about hardcore criminals surrendering before police in western UP. “The law has to be enforced in the state and we have ensured that law of land prevails,” Yogi had said and added: “Jo bandook ki bhasha smajhte hain, unko wohi bhasha samjhayee jayegi,”
When he came to power the crime against women was on the rise. Girls were afraid to go to schools and they were dropping out. Government launched anti-Romeo squad and the results are for everyone to see. This Valentine Day celebrations passed off without any incidents.
But it is the beginning. BJP Government has made plans. The test lies now to bring the projects down from the drawing board to the ground level. The administrative acumen of Yogi would be put to real test because good implementation of projects means happy people which in turn will help BJP in 2019 elections.
