The Allahabad High Court, lucknow bench questioned the State government over the vacant post in UP SC/ST Commission.In the Writ Petition filed by social activist Nutan Thakur to get the posts of Chairman and members of the UP SC/ST Commission filled, the double judge Bench comprising of Justice Devi Prasad Singh and Justice Ashok Pal Singh asked the State Counsel Abdul Moin to present all facts related with the vacancy of the SC/ST Commission and fixed 24 September as the next date of hearing.

As per the petition, presently there is no member appointed to the SC/ST Commission which has resulted in complete halting of work there. Nutan had presented a complaint to the Commission that while as per a Government Order, 23% of the Station Officers in police stations of each district shall belong to SC/ST category presently it is less than 10%. This complaint is kept pending because of vacancy in the Commission. Hence, she has prayed for immediate appointments in the Commission and also for complete compliance of the GO as regards due proportion of SC/ST Station Officers.
