Research scholars will now have an option to go for research on the life of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya as all state-run universities in Uttar Pradesh will have a research seat on the BJP ideologue.

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Higher Education Dr Dinesh Sharma said that the Government has decided to set up research seats in all state universities and earmarked Rs 50 lakh each for this seat in all universities.

There are 21 state universities in Uttar Pradesh and the governor is the Chancellor. Besides, there are four Central universities and 10 deemed universities.

“There is a need to educate people about the ideology of Deen Dayal Upadhaya and research on his life is the best option in this direction. We will promote scholars to research his life and ideology and how it helped in bringing the downtrodden into the mainstream of the society,” Dr Sharma said in Gorakhpur where he had gone to attend a function of a university.

The minister said that for research work an e-portal has been set up so that there is a regular exchange of research papers among scholars of different state universities.

Sharma said that the priority of the government is to regularise the academic sessions of the universities. “We have suggested an in-built system under which a committee headed by VC and comprising two members each from Teachers’ Association, Employees’ Association and Students’ Association will give suggestions on how to improve the academic atmosphere of respective universities. The Government will then act on the suggestions,” he said.

“The emphasis is to link education with employment and conduct examinations in free and fair manner across the state,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, the Government issued directives to all state universities and its affiliated colleges about existing seats for first year of BA, BSc and B Com for the 2017-18 academic session. “Students wanting admission in colleges should not deprived of higher education,” a press release issued by the state government said.
