Operation Kayakalp, the project to give a facelift to government schools by the Uttar Pradesh government, is showing its impact as these schools now have smart classrooms, libraries, playgrounds, toilets, and drinking water among other basic facilities.

The government’s project, aimed at transforming the primary schools of the state, was started in June 2018. Under this dream project of the UP government, 100 per cent schools have black and green boards for students while around 96 per cent have newly painted walls. Safe and clean drinking water is available in 96 per cent of the schools.

More than 94 per cent of the schools are saturated with lights and fans with safe wiring while 94 per cent have separate toilets for girls. These primary schools in Uttar Pradesh are said to be surpassing convent schools in terms of basic facilities and infrastructure.

To consistently improve educational facilities in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government is determined in its second term to transform the primary and secondary schools into smart schools under this project.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra said that cooperation of public representatives, voluntary organisations, gazetted officers as well as alumni of schools should be sought in rejuvenation of government primary and upper primary schools in the state.

“If public participation is increased, ‘Operation Kayakalp’ can become a mass campaign. People may voluntarily contribute in the memory of their ancestors to the school buildings, gardens, labs, libraries construction etc,” he said.

Those primary and upper primary schools of the state with no electricity facilities will be powered by solar panels. Besides, arrangements for drinking water will be ensured in all schools by June 30.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the officials concerned to increase extra-curricular activities for children and also provide quality education besides preparing effective content for online and smart classes.

Under the ‘Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, children will also be made aware of environment protection through plantation.
