Anand lal Bannerji, a 1979 batch IPS officer, who took over as charge of  new Director General of Police, here on Friday evening claimed that conducting peaceful and fair elections will be his top priority.

Speaking to media persons soon after taking charge from outgoing DGP, Rizwan Ahmed, who retired on Friday, Al Bannerji, claimed that since elections for the Parliament will be held very soon so his top priority is to give a atmosphere where people would freely caste their votes and select a popular government in the Centre. Showing his concern over snail progress of probe in important cases, Banerjee said that to improve the quality of investigation would be his another priority as only through proper and time enquiry, the culprits could be brought to books and people will get justice.

Banerjee also stressed need of improving the work regarding cyber crime as on-line is going to be biggest threat in the days to come. He said that technology to check cyber crime will be improved and specialised cell will be formed to track down the criminals involved in such offenses. He claimed that investigating in cyber crimes need special expertise as such offenses were easily committed even after sitting far away from the crime spot. Interestingly, Banerjee not spoken a single word on growing crimes against women or deteriorating law and order situation in the state on which state government was cornered on several occasions by the Opposition parties.

``I had just taken charge, so let me first analyse the situation only then I could chalk out strategy and came before you with the plan", replied new DGP who was awarded top police position by the State government. He got the key post after a long gap.It may be mentioned that Bannerji, who is presently Director General (Vigilance), succeeded Rizwan Ahmed who retires on Friday. Ahmed who was appointed DGP on December 31 last year, was accorded a warm farewell at Police lines earlier in the morning. He also took the salute of the police parade.
