Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani to set up a centre of National Assessment and Accredition Council (NAAC) in the state to evaluate the standard of state-run or private institutions.
“AS the NAAC headquarters is in Bangalore the evaluation of UP based institution is very slow resulting in anomalies in the standard between state-run institutions and national institutions,” Yadav said in his letter.
He said with high education touching new frontiers there are over 4000 institutions in the government, aided and private sectors. “The UGC has set up NAAC to evaluate these institutions but it is not done with that regularity,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that only 380 institutions are evaluated by NAAC. Of them 3 are state universities, 29 are degree colleges, 105 aided degree colleges and 243 private institutions. “If we can get NAAC centre in Uttar Pradesh it will solve the problem at a larger context,” he said.
