Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will campaign for the Congress during the Karnataka state assembly elections due next month. The Congress affirming its commitment for its alliance with the Samajwadi party for 2019 lok Sabha elections have named the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister as its star campaigner for Karnataka assembly elections. Every political party is required to submit the list of its star campaigner to the Election commission and obtain the approval of the poll panel.
Though Samajwadi party has its organizational unit in Karnataka, it’s not contesting the assembly election in the southern state. S Bangrappa, former chief minister of Karnataka was elected to lok Sabha from Karnataka on Samajwadi party a decade ago.
Interestingly , Bahujan Samaj party, the ally of the Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh is contesting the Karnataka assembly election in alliance with the Janata Dal (secular) led by the former prime minister HD Devewgowda. Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 225-member assembly. The results will be out on May 15.
