Aiming for a national outreach ahead of the 2019 lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will attend a meeting of his party’s Uttarakhand state executive in Dehradun on August 30.
The SP is also planning to hold similar meetings in other states ahead of the 2019 general election.
SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary said in lucknow on Monday that the party was organising the state executive meet in Uttarakhand on August 30 to reach out to people ahead of the lok Sabha election and similar events would be held in other states also.
The party has already decided to contest Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. The SP chief had visited Madhya Pradesh last month and would soon be visiting the other two poll-bound states.
Sources in the SP said, “The party will also be holding programmes soon in states like Punjab and Haryana. SP chief is also likely to go to these states as well. Our motive is to have a national outreach ahead of the 2019 election.”
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party took a jibe at the SP chief over plans of having a national outreach.
“Since Akhilesh Yadav has taken over as SP president, the party has faced its worst debacle in last Assembly polls. The party is losing ground and its leaders are relying on support of other parties for revival. Forget about other states, people in UP too have rejected them,” BJP leader Rakesh Tripathi said.
