With an aim to improve basic education the Akhilesh Yadav government would introduce new education policy where government plans to give incentives to the teachers posted in rural areas so that they can stay put in villages and teach the students.
“It has come to our notice that teachers are more interested to work in urban areas because they get more money in form of incentives like city allowance etc.So, the teachers pull strings and get appoint near cities. This is creating vacuum in the village schools,” Basic Education Minister Ram Gobind Chaudhry said here on Tuesday. He said to stop this trend the Government is contemplating to give incentives to teachers in rural areas so that they agree to work in villages.
Answering a question of Bimla Solanki (BJP) the Basic Education minister said that there was an acute shortage of teachers in the villages. “The Government has appointed over 76,000 teachers and will appoint 58,000 more teachers in near future,” he said and added that UP prefers a teacher-student ratio of  1:30 but it is much higher..Admitting that standard of education in state-run schools was poor he said if all opposition and treasury members support him he can change the face of basic education. “I will make government schools better than private schools,” he said.
