Continuing his tirade against the Yogi Adityanath government over lapses in providing relief for workers of unorganised sectors and migrant labours affected by the lockdown, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav charged that power had gone to the head of Bharatiya Janata Party brass and their leaders were behaving in an arrogant manner.
“The BJP leaders have the supreme confidence that whatever good or bad they offer to people, it will be accepted with gratitude, never complained about and people will continue to venerate BJP leaders,” said Akhilesh in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The SP chief said that acts of omission and commission of nodal officers of UP posted in other states was evident from the exodus and hardships faced by migrant labourers of the state in states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Surat), Maharashtra (Mumbai) and Uttarakhand.
“There is a huge gap between announcements of facilities by UP government for migrant labours and the situation on ground zero in other states,” he said.
Akhilesh said that letters written to chief ministers of different states by CM Yogi Adityanath would not serve the purpose as the state government needed to provide relief to lakhs of workers and poor people who fled from other states to their native villages in UP.
Accusing the state government of adopting ‘Ostrich- policy’, Akhilesh said, “The poor labourers coming to UP face a bleak future and BJP intellectuals may find some solution to the huge problem.”
The SP chief further said that the role of opposition could not be negated in a democracy. “No matter how many offensive comments are made on the opposition by the ruling party, the SP will continue to discharge its responsibility and democratic right of giving suggestions for public welfare. The government should make provisions for providing unemployment allowance till the time the unemployed get jobs,” he said.
Akhilesh alleged that public confidence in the ruling party has been shaken due to apathy of the government. “People have been following the advisory but the government should also recognise that immediate relief facilities should be made for the people,” he said.
