Samajwadi Party president and leader of opposition in UP assembly, Akhilesh Yadav, slammed UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the alleged killing of a young woman during a police raid in Chandauli on Sunday.
He demanded registration of a murder case against the police personnel responsible for the death of the daughter of one Kanhaiya Yadav.
According to police, Kanhaiya Yadav is a gangster.
“The girl was killed by the police because of her caste. The police have deliberately killed the girl to instill a sense of fear in the community. The policemen should be tried on murder charges for the heinous crime they have committed,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
“The UP police are killing common people and innocent citizens are being targeted at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party government. The brutal assault on two sisters by the police during the raid at Chandauli is the most unfortunate incident. The policemen involved in the incident should be brought to justice and criminal cases should be registered against them,” Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet.
After the incident in Chandauli where the daughter of a gangster, Kanhaiya Yadav, was found dead following a police raid, the local villagers gathered outside Yadav's residence and started protesting against the police officials. Samajwadi Party leaders and workers also reached the spot and joined the protest.
"Police went to the house of Kanhaiya Yadav. He was not there. Then they assaulted his daughters. The elder one has died while the younger one is admitted to a hospital," said SP MLA Prabhu Narayan Singh Yadav.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) on Monday condemned the Chandauli incident and demanded that a case be registered against the policemen responsible for the girl’s death.
CPI (ML) state secretary Sudhakar Yadav said the state government had suspended the SHO to contain the public ire but in view of the gravity of the crime of policemen, the action was not adequate. “The government should get a case registered against the cops found guilty and send them to jail and ensure strictest punishment to them so that the family of the deceased gets justice,” he said.
