Akhilesh doubts Cong intention for delay in AIIMS

Chief Minister Akilesh Yadav has questioned Congress intention for delay in setting up an AIIMS like medical institute in Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying why the party was not working for the welfare of aam aadmi.

''You ask Congress, why they are delaying the project when the UP government has given required land free of cost for the medical institute,'' he said while replying to the queries of the reporters here on Sunday.

Akhilesh further said that that the earlier BSP government had refused to give the land for the purpose but Samajwadi Party government immediately handed over the required land and there should not be any delay in construction of the hospital.

However, Congress MlA Akhilesh Pratap Singh, defending the Central government, said that the process for the AIIMS like medical institute in Rae Bareli was on progress. He said a high level team of the Central government had recently visited Rae Bareli for the purpose.

UP government in February last had provided land free of cost to the Centre for setting up an AIIMS-like medical institute in Rae Bareli. The Centre had proposed to set up the institute in 2008, but the then Mayawati government did not allot the land objecting to its location. Now, 148.15 acres of land have been identified - 98.30 acres of Nandganj Sihohi Sugar mill and 49.85 acres of land of farmers of Sultanpur Aima and Dariyapur villages."The ball is now in Centre’s court. They should tell people about the delay," the CM said.
