Akhilesh appeals PM to increase kerosene share for UP

Published on:

Alleging that UP’s share of kerosene allotment is going down Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding increase in tri-monthly allocation of kerosene for Uttar Pradesh.

He demanded that tri-monthly allocation of kerosene for Uttar Pradesh should be fixed at 600936 kilo liter (Kl). “The centre has gradually reduced allocation of kerosene to UP which is severely hitting its distribution through the public distribution system. The government is getting reports about resentment among people as they are not getting full quota of kerosene,” Yadav said in his letter to PM, the content of which were released on Tuesday.

CM said that UP is getting less kerosene than the allotted quota. In the first tri-monthly allocation it got 20,000 Kl less kerosene, while it was 19,000 Kl less kerosene than allotted quota in second term while in the third semester UP got 1.20 lakh Kl less than what it should get. “In Uttar Pradesh there are 4 crore ration card holders and each card holder gets 5 litre kerosene. By this standard state needs over 2 lakh Kl kerosene per month. The centre should realise that 70 per cent of state’s population still lives in villages. They rely on kerosene to cook their food. Until centre release UP’s full quota the poor would be forced to sleep empty stomach,” he said.
