Akhilesh: BJP using religion, caste for political mileage

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that with general elections around the corner, the Bharatiya Janata Party had started playing dirty games by using religion and caste to reap political mileage.

Addressing party workers in Lucknow on Thursday, Akhilesh said that the need of the hour was to make people aware of the malicious game that the BJP was playing in the name of democracy.

Without mentioning the triple talaq bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the SP chief said that the BJP was using religion to divide society.

“It is propagating high sounding words like gender equality, while the fact is that through the triple talaq bill it is meddling in the personal laws of the minority community,” he said.

Akhilesh further said that the BJP was doing these things because it had failed to deliver.

“In Uttar Pradesh, law and order situation has gone from bad to worse. Development has come to a naught and projects which the Samajwadi Party had started two years back have been thrown to the lumber room as an act of political vendetta. This BJP government’s achievement is limited to inaugurating projects already inaugurated during SP regime,” he said.

The SP chief said that the BJP government claimed that it was working for the welfare of farmers but the fact was that farmers were committing suicide as they were not getting price of their produce.

“The economy is in tatters because of haphazard implementation of Goods and Services Tax and unwise decisions like demonetisation. In this scenario, the BJP is fast losing faith of the people. Now the party is left with no option but to spread canards using attractive ‘jumlas’. People have already made up their minds to defeat the party in the 2019 elections,” Yadav said.
