Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to divide people by sowing seeds of hatred on religious lines by introducing the unwarranted National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
“Winning maximum seats does not mean that the BJP has got the mandate to rule the minds of the people. People are still supreme in democracy. Those who voted the BJP to power are now on the streets, agitating against the draconian law of the government,” Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement issued on Friday.
The SP chief said that the BJP had signed its death warrant by trying to muzzle people’s voice.
“This is the time that Samajwadi Party workers should go to the masses and educate them about the divisive policies of the BJP,” he said.
Later, addressing party workers at SP headquarters in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav said that both Gandhi and Lohia advocated the right to protest but this government had thrown those ideals into the lumber room.
“It is only the Samajwadi Party which is working on the path shown by Gandhi and Lohia. We cared for the poor while the BJP governments at the Centre and in UP ignored the youth and the poor,” he said.
Samajwadi Party workers complained that no development had taken place during Yogi Adityanath regime. Akhilesh told them to tell the people about development works done by the SP regime and how the BJP had only inaugurated projects that were inaugurated during his tenure as chief minister of UP.
