AIMIM to fight alone in assembly election

Getting no positive response from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) over stitching an alliance, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to contest the Assembly poll in the state alone and declared 11 candidates for the first two phases.

“To stop the Bhartiya Janta Party, we had talks with BSP leaders including its state president. We also asked for appointment with senior leaders to discuss the alliance. But while they assured us, they declared a list of 401 candidates. Now the AIMIM would be contesting the poll alone,” said state AIMIM chief Shaukat Ali on Monday.

“BSP chief Mayawati is overconfident of her party winning a majority of seats in the state. If the BJP comes to power, somewhere the BSP should also be held responsible for the same,” Ali added.

Pursuing the agenda of Muslims and Backwards Class, the party was hopeful of an alliance with the BSP for preventing the BJP and SP from gaining power in UP.

The party has declared 11 candidates for west UP seats which go to polls in the first two phases. The party hasfielded Mohd Idris Ali from Agra South, Ahtasham Ali (Ferozabad City), Maulana Masiullah (Kairana) and Parwez Ahmad (Koil), Junaid Ayyubi (Behat), Talat Khan (Saharanpur), Haji Shahabbudin (Moradabad City), Haji Aslam Ansari (Moradabad Dehat), Israr Husain (Kundarki), Yaseen Ansari (Bareilly City) and Shamim Ahmad Turq (Amroha City).

Ali informed that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi would be coming to the state to hold public meetings in western UP starting from Kairana in Muzaffarnagar.
