AIMIM slams govt for denying permission for Meerut rally

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party government for a biased attitude which led to the cancellation of the outfit’s public meeting in Meerut on Saturday.

AIMIM state chief Shaukat Ali said, “All preparations were completed to organise the rally at Nauchandi Grounds. The authorities too assured us that they will give us permission. But at the last moment, the district administration allowed only 100 people for this rally, referring to Covid guidelines whereas in rallies of the BJP and Samajwadi Party, lakhs of people are being allowed. The Meerut district officials deliberately sabotaged our rally."

Ali further alleged that AIMIM party workers and leaders staged a protest for several hours at Nauchandi police station over the issue late on Friday night but the authorities did not budge from their decision.

The AIMIM leader said, “My party would fight the next assembly elections with all its might in Uttar Pradesh and contest every assembly seat in Meerut. The AIMIM is in talks with Azad Samaj Party leader Chandrashekhar Azad alias Ravan for a pre-poll alliance. Party president Owaisi will come to Meerut in the last week of November and then we will organise a big public rally,” he said.
