DGP Javeed Ahmed claimed that the crime is not just confined to muscle power but the biggest threat to the society at present were crimes on the cyber space, wherein a criminal commits financial and other frauds sitting away from the scene.
The top cop was addressing police officers and personnel after inaugurating a five-day training program on Cyber Crime at the auditorium of Forensic Science laboratory at Mahanagar on Saturday.
“Policing of today is not confined to police stations or a jurisdiction. One has to be expert on Cyber laws, detecting frauds committed online and the perpetrators sitting hundreds of miles away from the scene,” said the DGP.
Ahmed further said that said science and technology, if not used appropriately, could become a danger to society.
“There is a concern for cyber crime the world over. Importance of technology has increased much for good governance and development. Sample the work of professionals in the IT Sector and those working for terror outfit al-Qaeda - while one was working for the society, the other for its destruction,” said Ahmed.
The DGP said that the training program will turn out to be a milestone for the UP Police in combating these forces using IT for the destruction of the society.
Besides the DGP, several other senior police officers were present during the start of the training program which was attended by two sub-inspectors each from 17 districts of the state.
The program will exclusively deal with technical aspects, investigation of cyber crimes and methods in tracking culprits and legal provisions in Information Technology Act.
The DGP later inspected the E-police station and enquired about progress made in 209 FIRs registered between June1 till July13 this year. The maximum of 149 FIRs were registered from Ghaziabad while 12 FIRs were reported from Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida).
Ahmed directed the officials to remove technical problems which were impeding the public from lodging their complaints on-line.
