The lawyer whose name surfaced for heading a syndicate in realising `claims’ worth several crore rupees through Workers Compensation Act by conniving with staff of Deputy labour Commissioner’s court in Ghaziabad, doctors, policemen etc, was also skin deep in making accidental claims.
Ironically, the lawyer showed the same stolen `car’ involved in seven accident claims even as the person driving the car was already dead. What is more, the lawyer produced `power of attorney’ to stake claim over the car even as its registration had expired after 15 years but still the transgressor produced it’s insurance papers.
ADG (Special Enquiry) Chandra Prakash, who is heading the SIT team set up by High Court to probe suspicious insurance claims said that the probe revealed several interesting facts about how people were engaged in making fake accidental claims and the cops were in cahoots in this illegal operation.
“Investigations revealed that between 2013-14, seven cases of `accidental claims’ were filed with National Insurance Company with the same Maruti car (UP13C-0050) being involved in accidents,” he said.
“Cases of accidental deaths involving the car were filed by Radha Devi in Tappal, Rinki Devi in Gandhi Park, Durgawati in Kotwali police station, Omveer in Tappal, Sonia again in Tappal, Rajni Pandey in Dehligate area, Balveer in Akrabad - all localities of Aligarh. The vehicle was registered with RTO office in Bulundshahr in the name of Raj Kumar Jain of Bypass Road, Adityanagar (Bulundshahr) - which turned out to be fake. The RTO office too confirmed that the car’s registration had expired in 2013,” said the ADG.
Chandra Prakash said that while probing thecase, another accident cropped up involving the same Maruti car in Hathras on July 10, 2014.
“On checking the record, it surfaced that the same lawyer Mahendra Pal had submitted a power of attorney in his name of the car to get it released from the police station. On scrutiny, the power of attorney turened out to be bogus. In all these eight accidents, the driver has been entered as Anil Kumar (son of Jagdish Prasad). On verifying, it turned out that Anil Kumar was handicapped, was the lawyer’s cousin and had committed suicide. His address too turned out to be fake,” he said.
The ADG revealed that the complicity of police officials and doctors in the syndicate was also evident. He said that adequate evidence have been collected and cases will be registered soon and the accused would be arrested.
