In a first since the peak in April-May this year, Uttar Pradesh recorded less than 20,000 active corona cases on Friday.
Commenting on the encouraging development, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the infection load dropped significantly pushing the tally of active cases to 19,438 with the help of a widely deployed and aggressive testing strategy. “Uttar Pradesh reported a steep decline in fresh Corona cases for the 36th consecutive day and in the last 24 hours, there were merely 1092 fresh cases of Covid-19 reported across the state. The decline has been over 94 per cent since the peak of 3.10 lakh cases recorded on April 30,” said Yogi at a high-level COVID review meeting in Lucknow on Saturday.
As many as 3.09 lakh sample tests for confirming coronavirus infection were carried out using Rapid Antigen and RT-PCR tests on Friday taking the tally of tests to a mammoth 5.10 crore till date. In the last 24 hours, Covid positivity rate in the state was only 0.3 per cent with 4,346 patients recovering and being discharged from hospitals. Thus, a total of 16.56 lakh 763 people of the state overcame the Corona infection and recovered. The recovery rate of Corona patients in the state increased to 97.6 per cent even higher than the national recovery rate.
In sharp contrast to the most populous state, Daily Positivity Rate (DPR) was much higher in other states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra and the sample testing in these states have also been much less as compared to Uttar Pradesh.
“As per latest reports, the total number of active Corona cases in Bulandshahr and Bareilly districts came down to 600 and in as many as 67 districts of the state, the number of active cases was below the 600 mark. Looking at the current recovery pace, it is expected that by Monday, active caseload might come below 600 in another four to five districts across Uttar Pradesh,” said the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,092 fresh Corona cases were reported during the last 24 hours while in the corresponding period, 4,346 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals. With the number of active Corona cases dipping below 600, the partial Corona curfew was lifted from Bareilly and Bulandshahr districts and the partial lockdown was confined to only eight districts of the state which still have more than 600 active Corona cases. Till now, 1.98 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered to the people of the state while in the last 24 hours, 4.01 lakh people were given the jabs. From Monday onwards, separate booths will be operated for making the vaccination process convenient for women.
