Putting to an end all speculation about the possibility of its alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the crucial assembly elections next year, the Aam Aadmi Party has made it clear that it will not ally with any political party in the state and will contest all the 403 seats on its own.
This was announced by AAP’s Rajya Sabha member and party incharge in UP, Sanjay Singh.
Giving this information to news persons, AAP spokesman Mahendra Singh said the party’s UP incharge Sanjay Singh had made this announcement on Tuesday. He said the AAP would go it alone in the UP assembly elections in 2022 and it had already shortlisted over 100 candidates for the UP polls.
“The prospective candidates will also be appointed as incharge of the assembly constituency and the party will test their caliber. After this they will be given tickets for the election,” Mahendra Singh said.
He did not elaborate why the AAP was not going for alliance with other political parties but said that the AAP was gaining popularity and would win seats on its own.
Singh said his party had launched the Tiranga Yatra to explain to the people in UP that the nationalism of AAP was different from the nationalism of Bharatiya Janata Party.
“We fight for free electricity, good education, good medical health facilities, jobs for youths and welfare of farmers and poor people. We protest scams in the name of running public welfare schemes, purchase of medical equipment at a whopping price, scam in Jal Jeevan Mission and embezzlement in donation given by the people for construction of temple of Lord Shri Ram and that is nationalism of AAP,” he explained.
He said AAP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of New Delhi, Manish Sisodia, would go to Ayodhya where he would pay obeisance to Lord Shri Ram and also address the Tiranga Yatra there on September 14.
“We launched the Tiranga Yatra to contact the people directly and to highlight the misrule of the BJP government and also make the people aware of AAP’s version of nationalism. The yatra is being headed by Sanjay Singh and is being convened by AAP state president Sabhajeet Singh,” he said.
AAP’s announcement to go it alone in the UP assembly election gave fodder to the leaders of various political parties to tax their brains to find the hidden meaning.
“AAP has gained popularity among people, especially among the youths. The reason is simple. Most of the youths of different districts in UP live in Delhi where they do jobs. They are impressed with the Kejriwal model of governance and they are spreading good feelings about AAP in their hometowns. This is the AAP’s USP in the election 2022,” a leader of the AAP explained.
He said AAP was sure to dent the political ambitions of several bigwigs and political parties by contesting the UP elections all alone.
