AAP gears up for municipal polls in UP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started preparations for contesting the municipal elections to be held across the state in next few months. The party will also launch a membership drive to extend its reach among the people in Uttar Pradesh from April 2. The decision was taken at a meeting, chaired by Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, to review the performance of party candidates in the recently held Assembly elections on Monday.

The meeting was attended by AAP district chiefs and the poll candidates. Singh discussed with the participants the ways to strengthen the party and to make people aware of the policies of the party. He asked AAP leaders to start preparing for contesting the municipal elections and sought to know about a tentative poll strategy. Though the AAP failed to win a seat in the recent Assembly elections in UP, Singh did not forget to mention the party’s landslide win in Punjab and said that party workers and leaders worked hard to form a new government in the northern state.

“Our win in Punjab has catapulted us as an alternative to the national political spectrum. We are working hard to thrash out a strategy to secure maximum wins in the upcoming UP municipal elections,” he said. Singh said that the AAP will keep a close eye on the implementation of poll promises that the BJP made during the poll campaigning and will highlight if the ruling party failed to fulfill its promises.
