“I was shelterless, homeless..., now I can’t believe my luck. The Uttar Pradesh government has provided me with a house and I reside in it along with my four family members without any hassle,” says Netrapal of Shahjahanpur who is one of the 43 lakh poor and homeless persons who has got homes in the four-and-a-half years of Yogi Adityanath government through government housing schemes.
“I am very grateful to the Yogi government for providing me a house under Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana. The house came at a time when I had lost all hopes,” Netrapal said.
Netrapal of village Gurra Bhamoli in Kot development block, is a farmer from Shahjahanpur. He did not have any house and used to lead a miserable life. Two years back, his kutcha house caught fire and he was rendered homeless. After approaching the authorities, he was informed of the housing scheme. In March 2020, he was allotted a house under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). Now, Netrapal and his family members are very pleased with their present house being built and are leading a better life.
While marking the completion of four-and-a-half years of his government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday had said that while during the previous governments, those sitting at the helm of affairs were busy making their 'own' houses, his government delivered for the people and provided more than 42 lakh houses for the poor under PM Awas Yojana, the most among all the states in the country, during this period. This could be made possible due to the effective implementation of welfare schemes and the honest endeavour to provide the benefits of the government welfare schemes to the poor and needy.
The story of Nagina Devi, a resident of village Delhana, post Kashipur, Varanasi, is no different. Nagina, a daily labourer, works round-the-clock to earn her daily bread. Earlier, she was residing in a small hut with a thatched roof. She did not have the monetary resource to own proper home. This was until she received a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana during the pandemic time. Now, Nagina Devi is happy that she is living in a pucca house. A safe and secure dwelling unit with basic amenities has increased the quality of life, self-esteem and social status of Nagina.
“I have developed a faith in the system now. Having a pucca house of my own -- it can’t get any better than that. Thanks to the government,” Nagina said.
Getting into the mode of implementation and execution in his four-and-a-half years tenure, Yogi Adityanath has done a remarkable job of changing the picture of rural Uttar Pradesh. The efforts of the government have resulted in the economic prosperity of the villages along with the social uplift of the villagers.
Under the PMAY, around 42 lakh households have been built in Uttar Pradesh. While under CMAY(R), more than 1,08,495 houses have been constructed in the state.
