Tension prevailed in Baldirai area of Sultanpur after a mob set afire Ballipur police outpost and other belongings after a Block Developmen Committee member was shot dead reportedly over political rivalry on Wednesday morning.
Agitated supporters of the BDC member reportedly attacked the police party and fought pitch battle for several hours in which over a dozen persons from both side were injured. later heavy police force rush to the spot and somehow defuse the situation after which the victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. A case was also registered in this regard and teams were formed to nab the accused. Heavy police force has been also deployed in the area to avert further clash. Interestingly, confusing also prevailed that whether the victim or his wife Surinisha was a BDC member IJ While local officials at Sultanpur maintained that it was victim Jamil, who was a BDC member, DGP office in it’s release claimed that Surinisha is a BDC member.
Reports said that Block Development Committee Member, Jamil Ahmad (55), hailing from Baldirai area of Sultanpur was sitting at his shoe shop in Badlipur market on Wednesday morning. When Jamil was talking to some local resident, one Faheem, with whom Jamil had political rivalry, arrived along with two other unknown assailants. Before Jamil could sense foul play, Faheem and both of aides opened indiscriminate fire on Jamil killing him the spot. The volley of bullets also created panic in the area and everyone rushed to take shelter. later taking advantage, all the three assailants escaped from the spot.
The news of death of Jamil went like a wild fire and within no minutes hundred of his supporters and relatives gathered at the spot. They kept the body on middle of the road and refused to hand it over to the local police to shift it to mortuary for post-mortem examination. Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, the agitated mob not only attacked the cops but also torched the local police outpost along with vehicles and belongings kept there. later heavy police force along with senior officers rushed to the spot and they lobbed tear-gas shells to control the mob. later some force has been also used to disperse the violent protesters after which the cops managed to shift the body for autopsy test.
